Reports from all over suggest a settlement is near in thousands of lawsuits filed by state and local governments against Purdue Pharma over the opioid epidemic.
The New York Times says Purdue would go into bankruptcy reorganization. It would pay $3 billion over seven years. And it would continue to sell OxyContin, but proceeds would go to an entity that would pay plaintiffs.
Arkansas has been pursuing this action at both the state level and through cities and counties. Other drugmakers have also been sued and some settlements reached.
