Colton Harley, 22, serving a 48-year sentence for murder in Franklin County, was found hanging in his cell in the Varner Unit about 5:30 p.m. Thursday in what a news release called an apparent suicide.

He had tied a bedsheet around his neck and looped it through cell bars. He’d been checked at 4:54 p.m., the release said. In addition to the Franklin County conviction, Harvey was sentenced to three years in Lincoln County for battery for stabbing a jailer with a homemade knife.
