A jury in Dallas is now considering the case against former Dallas cop Amber Guyger, who fatally shot Harding University graduate Botham Jean in his own Dallas apartment last year.
Guyger, who lives in the same apartment building, entered the apartment and, believing she was in her own apartment, killed Jean in what her attorney described as self-defense. The prosecutor in closing arguments rejected that saying she hadn’t acted reasonably. She should have waited outside the door and gotten backup before entering if she thought someone was inside.
The judge said the jury could consider a charge of murder or manslaughter.
Jean, a native of St. Lucia, was unarmed and eating a bowl of ice cream when Guyger burst in to an apartment that is a floor below her own.
