Ronetta Francis, a Rogers lawyer, has announced as a Democratic candidate for Senate District 1 against incumbent Republican Sen. Bart Hester.

Francis, a former trial attorney for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, spent 10 years as a Walmart executive and is now CEO of Francis Dynamics Consulting, which specializes in executive coaching.

Francis already has a spot on the Act Blue fund-raising website for progressive candidates. Her website is ready.

Her news release speaks of the need for affordable health care and quality public schools, as well as integrity in public service and a “more inclusive” Northwest Arkansas. Whether intended as a poke at Hester or not, it fits. Hester has led the charge to discriminate against LGBT people, has endorsed anti-immigrant legislation and has sponsored legislation that benefitted his business interests.

A Birmingham native, Francis holds a master’s in psychology as well as a law degree and is active in a number of community organizations in Northwest Arkansas.

Her release says Northwest Arkansas is at the “tipping point” of a  major “reputational rebranding” effort. “We need the right leaders in the room, who not only support and embrace the region’s continued economic growth but also its richly evolving demographics.”
