Pulaski County Judge Barry Hyde announced today a couple of environmentally friendly projects.
One is a plan to use recycled tires in an asphalt mix on a paving project on Lawson Road. The product has been put down on 1.2 miles of road to test its wearability.
The other project we mentioned yesterday. The county has a deal with Today’s Power Inc. to install 8 megawatts of solar power plants on 40 acres at the Little Rock Port and 12 acres at the county justice facility.
TPI will finance and own the project. The county will buy the power at 4.9 cents per kilowatt-hour for 20 years. The county hopes to cover 80 to 100 percent of power needs with solar power and save $150,000 on electricity costs the first year.
Solar projects are popping up all over in Arkansas, helped by a 2019 law that allowed the government to join in such projects with private producers.
