Here’s the open line. Some 0dds and ends from around the state:

  • BURNED BODY: The Pulaski sheriff’s office says deputies checking a vehicle fire Friday night on Woodson Lateral Road found human remains in the burned vehicle. Cause and manner of death and identification of the body are pending.
  • TWO SHOT AT HOTEL: Little Rock police say two teens, a male and female, were shot, the male critically, about 10 a.m. today following a party-related dispute at the Staybridge Suites on University Avenue just south of I-630. Fox 16 reports.
  • BUDGET UNHAPPINESS AT ASU: More to come on this, but I’ve been signaled about faculty unhappiness about recent budget cuts at Arkansas State University at Jonesboro. The rub is a request for across-the-board departmental budget cuts of .73 percent to meet a .44 percent budget shortfall at the same time, according to a faculty Senate resolution passed Friday, administrators got raises “out
of proportion with the reality of our current financial circumstances.”  A faculty resolution suggests that Chancellor Damphousse and other administrators — vice chancellor and above  — return raises, bonuses and deferred compensation increases for 2019-20 and apply that money to budget shortfalls.

UPDATE: The Correction Department reports a death under investigation at Wrightsville unit after one inmate assaulted another  about 8:30 a.m.

While the victim, Albert Williams, 50, was being escorted to the unit’s infirmary for treatment, he collapsed and couldn’t be revived. He may have suffered a heart attack, the department said.
