WGBH in Boston has completed a project recalling an embarrassing episode in Arkansas history — the “reverse freedom rides” engineered by segregationists to send black people to Massachusetts where they expected resistance to expose liberal hypocrisy.

It was the segs’ answer to freedom riders taking Greyhounds South aiming to break segregation of public accommodations.

We mentioned the history earlier this year when Donald Trump proposed a modern-day version with an idea to dump immigrants in sanctuary cities.

The Trump plan, so far not undertaken, is one element in WBGH’s comprehensive retelling of the story, including the leadership of Little Rock segregationist Amis Guthridge and the hard times that met those who took up the segs’ promise of jobs and better lives in the North.
