The Little Rock police say Keith Cobbins, 45, was fatally shot Wednesday afternoon during a dispute with an employee of Family Dollar at 2408 Martin Luther King Drive.

On April 29, 2020, at 5:35 P.M., officers responded to a shooting just occurred at the Family Dollar, at 2408 Dr. Martin Luther King Drive. Information was provided during the call for service that a male subject was lying on the ground and a woman shot him.


When officers arrived on scene they located Keith Cobbins (B/M DOB 06/24/1974) suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his chest. Officers requested medical attention for Mr. Cobbins, and MEMS transported him to UAMS where he later succumbed to his injury. While on scene, officers learned that the person who shot Mr. Cobbins was and employee of the Family Dollar Store, Shalonda Nelson (B/F DOB 01/20/1978). Officers took Ms. Nelson into custody and transported her to the Major Crimes Division to speak with detectives.


Homicide Detectives responded to the scene and began interviewing those who were at the business when the shooting took place. Detectives began working with management at the business to try to obtain any available video surveillance. The Crime Scene Search unit responded to photograph and process the scene for any potential evidence. After interviewing all of the witnesses to the incident, detectives learned a disturbance ensued inside the business between Ms. Nelson and Mr. Cobbins. The disturbance escalated and continued out of the store and into the parking lot. During the disturbance, Ms. Nelson shot Mr. Cobbins in
the chest.


Upon preliminary investigation and after interviewing Ms. Nelson, she was released from custody pending further investigation into this incident and a file review by the Pulaski County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
