A petition drive is underway to get voters to legalize the Sunday sale of alcohol at retail (not just restaurants) in Bentonville and Rogers.

This account from Axios NW Arkansas, notes that 19 cities in Arkansas, including Springdale, have legalized Sunday sales. Sunday sales are also legal across the state line in Missouri.

Walmart is leading the effort. The campaign slogan is “keep our dollars local.”

Why not Little Rock? The City Board could put the measure on the ballot, but it is opposed by the liquor store lobby. There’s been talk of a citizen-initiated vote here for years, but nothing has come of it yet. Do you doubt it would pass if it reached the ballot?

Craft brewers and distillers ARE allowed to sell goods for takeout on Sunday in Little Rock, thanks to state law.
