Working hard to be relevant as a lame-duck governor with minimal support in the legislature, Governor Hutchinson announced today that he had “reinstated” the Arkansas School Safety Commission after the Uvalde school massacre.

They will meet. They will talk. They will report. They will do nothing about the root cause of slaughters — weapons of mass destruction. Guns aren’t mentioned in the topics to be discussed. Mental health is.

You won’t find a Moms Demand member among them, though you will find leading proponents of putting more guns on school grounds, whether in the hands of police “resource” officers or teachers (see the Clarksville superintendent). Feel safer?
