Arkansas Community Organizations, a grassroots group, has announced its endorsement of Little Rock’s proposal to renew a three-mill property tax for capital spending.

The organization’s news release emphasized three “priority items” among six items before voters — streets, parks and drainage. It also urged the city Board to distribute the money according to need, not just equally among the wards.

President Donna Massey said the tax was a “positive step forward for our community. Our streets and sidewalks are in need of repair, and parts of this millage will allow them to be repaired.”

Voters also are being asked to devote varying sums to fire equipment, a new district court building and for the Little Rock Port to expand its industrial park. The three mills will be imposed even if all six proposed allocations of money aren’t approved, but the size of a $160 million bond issue would be reduced by amounts proposed for any segment failing to get a positive vote.
