Little Rock Family Planning Clinic

While many of us assumed the state’s only licensed abortion clinic closed on June 24 with the outlawing of abortion in the state of Arkansas, the clinic made it official today, announcing on its website that it would be “temporarily closed” as of Sept. 1.

“It has been an honor and privilege to have been your health care provider, some of you for many years,” the message reads. “We are grateful for the opportunity to have served your medical needs.” The clinic’s phone answering service directs patients to the National Abortion Federation, which is currently helping pregnant people in states like Arkansas find access to abortion care in states where abortion is legal.

The Arkansas Times compiled a list of abortion care resources after Roe fell; find that list here.

The clinic was founded in 1973, and moved to its West Little Rock location in 1997. Through the tireless efforts of its staff and the volunteer clinic escorts like Karen Musick (pictured above), who reported to its parking lot at 7:15 a.m. to mirror the clinic’s appointment schedule, pregnant people in Arkansas were able to access safe abortion care with minimal harassment from protestors. Until 2022, that is.
