The Conway School Board, already the home of a self-proclaimed “patriot” and two fellow conservatives who joined forces to campaign as a team, is likely about to move even further to the right.
Conway School Board member Scott Champlin, a lawyer, has resigned from the board “to devote more time to his family and business,” the school board announced today.
Champlin’s resignation leaves the board’s Zone 5 position vacant. The board will appoint a temporary replacement for Champlin in the next 30 days. The new trustee member must live and be registered to vote in the district and will serve until the next annual school election. At that time, voters will elect someone to serve the remainder of Champlin’s unexpired term.
Champlin was the only lawyer on the board. His departure comes at a time when the board would benefit from some sound, unbigoted legal advice as members consider proposals to openly allow discrimination against transgender students, teachers and others.
Anyone living in Zone 5 who is interested in serving on the school board should email School Board President Andre’Acklin at firstname.lastname@example.org or Superintendent Jeff Collum at email@example.com.
While we’ve reported that the proposed anti-trans policies have generated 765 letters to board members from people in opposition, we now know that the proposals have sadly generated even more letters of support — 1,026, to be precise.
