It’s give-a-school-board-member-a-clue day. And here’s our first clue: Board members should not joke about shooting kids. But that’s exactly what the newest member of the Conway School Board did this morning.

In a Facebook post deleted late this afternoon, newly appointed member Bill Milburn, a former police officer, joked, “It was a wild night on Milburn Mtn last night. I shot 4 Zombies on my front porch. The odd thing was they all were carrying a bag of candy!”

Yes, we know he was talking about Halloween. We know he was joking. But the problem is gun violence in America, especially our schools, is no joking matter anymore.

We are grateful that Milburn eventually deleted the post, especially since the school board has already divided residents of Conway more deeply than I’ve seen in the almost 20 years I’ve lived here.
