For AR People
Arkansas Family Council Director Jerry Cox and his colleagues celebrated the end to abortion access in Arkansas, even for victims of rape and incest in this file photo. Brian Chilson

We’re hoping the Family Council‘s panning of a bill by Rep. Richard Womack (R- Arkadelphia) and Sen. Matt McKee (R-Pearcy) that would make women who get abortions liable for murder will be fatal.

Jerry Cox, the affably priggish head of Arkansas’s Christian crusaders, took to the internet last week to blog his opposition. Which is surprising, because Cox and the Family Council usually love punishing women who have sex.

The Family Council remains all for going after abortion providers, but charging women with murder is a bridge too far even for them.

The bill, HB1174, is listed on the agenda for today’s House Judiciary Committee hearing, but on the deferred list, meaning it’s on hold for now. Hoping lawmakers across the political spectrum can come to agree it’s nonviable.
