MARIJUANA SALES: Medical marijuana patients in Arkansas spent more than $141 million at the state's dispensaries through the first six months of the year.

The Internal Revenue Service is seeking volunteers for a committee to improve the federal agency and is specifically seeking applicants from Arkansas before Sunday’s deadline.

The IRS is seeking applicants for the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel, a committee of volunteers that has provided recommendations on improving the IRS over the past 20 years. The group has submitted more than 2,200 recommendations, including 201 recommendations last year, many of which were implemented, the IRS said in a press release.

The improvements have included customer callback technology, the option to get past tax returns through Free File and allowing for longer extension times for taxpayers filing returns, according to the press release.

The committee is seeking volunteers from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and abroad but is specifically asking for more candidates from 11 states, including Arkansas.
