Officers with the Little Rock Police Department were at the scene of two homicides over the weekend.

Just before 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, officers responded to a report of a shooting at an E-Z Mart at 11724 Rainwood Road in the western part of the city. Eligiah Lucas, 26, was found suffering from a gunshot wound and died at the scene, according to a police report. One potential suspect was taken for questioning, but he was later released without charges. An investigation is underway.

On July 30 around 4 a.m., police secured a scene at 800 Broadway Street, the address of a downtown gas station. Patrick Jordan, 20, was found suffering from a gunshot wound. Medical professionals attempted life-saving measures, but Jordan died at the scene.

The LRPD arrested Mickell Taylor and Overdis McKenzie Jr. in connection to the Sunday homicide. They are both 19 and have been charged with capital murder. An investigation is ongoing.

The LRPD has reported 33 homicides in Little Rock in 2023 to date, including the two this weekend. One additional death from an officer-involved shooting is not included in that count.
