RED DOOR Thanks to an offering on one of those half-price coupon websites that made it too cheap to resist, we got a chance to head back to Mark Abernathy’s Red Door restaurant recently, one of our long-time faves. It has its winter menu on now, with heartier fare than the summer slate. Still plenty of old favorites, though, like the fried green tomatoes ($7.95, and just where do they get ’em green in the middle of winter?). From the big list of entree items, we tried the special of the day, which was generous pork tenderloin served with a very nice cranberry reduction and a choice of sides ($17.95). Our companion, meanwhile, got her usual, which was one of Red Door’s very tasty build your own pizzas ($9.95 small, $15.95 large), which features her favorite crust in town, smothered with fresh ingredients. Both turned out delicious, especially the tenderloin, which was a perfect companion to the can’t-miss-it homemade mac ‘n’ cheese. Result: another memorable meal from a place that’s long been on our Saturday night to-do list. 3701 Old Cantrell Road. Full bar. $$-$$$. All CC. 501-666-8482. www.reddoorrestaurant.net. L Mon-Fri., D daily.
