House of Philly Cheesesteaks, which renovated the space and added new tables, is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays. Delivery is available. The phone number is 838-3535.
UPDATE
ACADIA The restaurant has increased its Monday-Tuesday three-course, fixed-price dinner a dollar to $22.50, but it’s still as good a bargain as you’ll find. For that base price, you get a choice of first courses, including some fascinating combinations of salads, and any of the run of entrees, from fish to chicken to beef, and dessert (or you can have the soup du jour instead of dessert). Although the sea scallops entree tempted us, because we know how well Acadia presents the dish, we went with the night’s spe-cials: a smoked duck enchilada appetizer spiced up Southwestern style with black beans, corn, fresh cilantro and such. It was almost large enough for a full entree. We fol-lowed that with veal scallopini in a white mushroom bacon gravy, with sides of green beans done up spectacularly and a Swiss-cheese potato. Dining companion went with the beef tenderloin, a slightly smaller serving with the fixed-price special than you’d get separately, but plenty nonetheless and cooked perfectly and covered with vegetables. Her Caesar salad with polenta and a chili dressing was also one of the best twists on tradition we’ve ever had. Peach cobbler with ice cream stood out over the homemade white chocolate ice cream in a dish. Acadia serves up serious portions, puts some thought into spices and herbs, and complements it all with great service and a full wine list of top choices. 3000 Kavanaugh Blvd. Full bar.
