Browning’s Mexican Grill will reopen Friday, July 7, after being closed earlier this week for a quick interior remodeling.
“Now that Starbucks has opened down the street, I’ve gotta get hip with the Heights,” Browning’s owner Greg Phelan said last week. He’s finished some exterior work two years ago, and on the front room inside earlier this week he was fixing up the walls and adding two 35-inch televisions in corners.
Phelan said he will be applying for a liquor license; currently, Browning’s can serve been and wine, but a full liquor license would allow the fabled, 60-year-old restaurant to serve “top shelf” margaritas and other brands of liquor. Phelan said he would also add a bar, though not the “belly-up” kind.
Browning’s, on Kavanaugh, is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
