Comedian and actor Chris Tucker from Atlanta brings his stand-up show to Robinson Center Music Hall on Saturday, July 29. Tucker is know for his movies “Rush Hour,” “Rush Hour 2,” and “Friday.” Showtime is 8 p.m. and tickets range from $29.75 to $44.75 through all Ticketmaster outlets.

Rep readings for comedy finalists

“Bertrand Priest,” Ian Cohen’s winning entry in this year’s Kaufman and Hart Prize for New American Comedy, will be read on the Arkansas Repertory Theatre’s Second Stage on Sunday, July 30.

The other finalists will also be read this weekend. “The Antic in Romantic,” by Nicholas Korn, will be read on the Second Stage on Friday, July 28, and “Merde De Canard: A Comedy of Seven Doors and Eight Automatons” by Kenneth N. Kurtz will be presented on Saturday, July 29.

The readings are all at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 each night.

“Bertrand Priest” was chosen from among 200-plus entries for the award, given every two years by the Rep. Cohen, who will attend the reading, will receive $10,000 and his play will be produced by the Rep next spring as part of the 2006-07 Main Stage season.

Korn and Kurtz will receive $1,000 as finalists. All of the playwrights will participate in a post-reading discussion with the cast and audience. Brad Mooy, the Rep’s artistic associate and literary manager, will direct nine actors in the readings.

Twisters wrap up regular season

The Arkansas Twisters, already secure in knowing they have an Arena Football 2 playoff spot set for next month, finish their regular season at Alltel Arena on Saturday, July 29, against the Macon Knights.

Game time is 7 p.m.

Tickets start at $10 and are available through Ticketmaster or the team’s office at 975-5425.

The Twisters, who completed a season sweep of rival Tulsa last week at home, are 9-6; Macon is 8-7. Saturday’s game is Fan Appreciation Night, and one fan will win a Taco Bell iPod. Fans can also register at participating Shell stations for the Gander Mountain 4-wheeler to be given away Saturday.

The Twisters also will be raising money for the 2-year-old daughter of the team’s receiver, Robert Kilow, who recently had heart surgery.

The team’s tailgate party runs from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on One Alltel Arena Way, with live music, an inflatable for the kids, free Cokes and hot dogs, and $2 beer.

Travs return home

The Arkansas Travelers countdown in their last season at Ray Winder Field, now at 25 games, continues with a series against the Wichita Wranglers this weekend. The series is part of a lengthy home stand through Aug. 9, with the Springfield Cardinals and the Frisco RoughRiders coming in.

Game times are 7:10 p.m. Friday and 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Replica 1932 jerseys (the first year Ray Winder Field, then Travelers Field, was open) will be given away Friday to the first 1,000 paid adults, and children can run the bases after the game. Saturday’s doubleheader marks Kickball Night, with kickballs given to the first 1,000 paid children. Famed contortionist Rubberboy will entertain between games, and kids can run the bases again after the second game.

The series resumes with Wichita on Monday at 7:10 p.m. Discount tickets are available through various sponsors for games next week. Alltel’s NASCAR car will be on display on Thursday, Aug. 3. Ray Winder Field figurines will be given away to the first 1,000 paid adults on Friday, Aug. 4. Jermain Taylor bobbleheads will be given to the first 1,000 paid adults on Saturday, Aug. 5. Clunker Car Night, with used cars given away every inning, is Aug. 8.
