Big-time rasslin’ at AlltelWorld Wrestling Entertainment will bring its “SmackDown” Superstars TV show and tour to Alltel Arena on Tuesday, Jan. 16, starting at 6:30 p.m.

Among the wrestlers scheduled to appear are Batista, the world heavyweight champion; King Booker, Queen Sharmell, U.S. champ Chris Benoit, Undertaker, Kane, Mr. Kennedy, Finlay, Matt Hardy, WWE Tag Team champs Brian Kendrick and Paul London, Boogeyman and cruiserweight champ Gregory Helms. The main event will feature Undertaker, Kane and Batista taking on King Booker with Sharmell, Mr. Kennedy and MVP.

The show will also feature ECW Extremists Lashley, RVD, Sabu and Tommy Dreamer. It marks ECW’s debut at the arena.

Tickets start at $21.75, ranging up to $41.75, and are available through the arena box office (975-9000) or through Ticketmaster (975-7575, www.ticketmaster, or Harvest Foods stores).

Noted author speaks at PSC

Jonathan Kozol, a Harvard graduate, Rhodes scholar and award-winning author, will speak Tuesday, Jan. 16, at Philander Smith College as part of the PSC “Bless the Mic” lecture series. Kozol has been deemed “one of America’s most forceful and eloquent observers of the intersection of race, poverty and education.”

Kozol is a noted social justice advocate and author of numerous books: “The Shame of the Nation,” “Savage Inequalities,” and “Amazing Grace: The Lives of Children and the Conscience of a Nation.”

The lecture begins at 7 p.m. in the M.L. Harris Auditorium. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Call 370-5279.

Theater watch

“Driving Miss Daisy,” the humorous and warm-hearted look at an unlikely relationship between an aging set-in-her-ways Southern matriarch and her proud, soft-spoken black driver, continues through Jan. 28 at Murry’s Dinner Playhouse, at the corner of South University Avenue and Col. Glenn Road. “Driving Miss Daisy” won the Pulitzer Prize and was the basis for the Oscar-winning film.

Friday Art Night

Second Friday Art Night will be held throughout the River Market area from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Jan. 12, and will also include a film at the Main Library. Art lovers and history buffs will want to visit such stops as the Arkansas Arts Center, Cox Creative Center, Hearne Fine Art, Historic Arkansas Museum, River Market ArtSpace and Ten Thousand Villages. Admission is free, and light refreshments are offered. The Arkansas Arts Center will be opening “Stitches,” An Invitational Exhibition of Fiber Art,” organized by Anne Gochenour, on Friday. Six contemporary artists have used needle and thread for their expressive media.

The “Reel Evenings” film accompanying 2nd Friday Art Night is “The Agony and the Ecstasy,” beginning at 8 p.m. in the Darragh Center Auditorium. It’s also free. For more information, visit www.2ndfridayartnight.com.

Youth cafe in Conway

Advent Lutheran Church in Conway will sponsor a youth cafe on Saturday, Jan. 13 called Advent U-Tunes Cafe. The show will feature rock and roll band Cephus, a young quartet from Conway. Cephus performs a variety of rock and roll music including classic rock and some original tunes.

Advent U-Tunes is at Advent Lutheran Church, 900 Farris Road in Conway. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and admission is $3 at the door. Proceeds from refreshment sales will go to benefit the Haven House, a shelter for abused adolescent females in Faulkner County. Call 450-3416.
