Playwright and actor Tyler Perry brought explosive amounts of humor in his newest play “Madea Goes to Jail,” performed Tuesday and Wednesday last week at Alltel Arena.

Perry’s cross-dressing character Madea, which he has taken to the silver screen in “Madea’s Family Reunion,” finds herself behind bars — most likely for one of the many brash antics she is known to pull. But it quickly becomes apparent that the steel bars and hardened criminals that she finds herself in the company of have no effect on her in the least. She quickly demonstrates to both the guards and inmates that she is not to be played around with.

Madea gets out of jail and returns home with unexpected temporary custody of Toni, the daughter of an inmate she befriended while in jail. Not only does she have to discipline a 16-year-old with an attitude from hell, but there is also paternity trouble brewing between her nephew and his wife, who live with her as well.

Full of soulful singing and candid but comical advice on everything from relationships to raising children, Perry does it again and does not disappoint with “Madea Goes to Jail.” If Perry swings by the way again, make sure to catch his act.
