Boyfriend found

I met my best boyfriend ever from your newspaper — indulge me and let me tell you a little about us. We get to spend time together just once a week, usually over a coffee and bagel, but on special occasions — my favorite — over beer and pizza. He is funny and smart, politically savvy — every uttered word is brilliant. He makes me laugh out loud — he gets me. I am so lucky to have moved to Little Rock and found him. I sometimes get the feeling that ours is not an exclusive relationship, but I’m not complaining. I could spend eternity in this kind of unencumbered pairing. U2 still hasn’t found what they’re looking for but I found Bob Lancaster’s columns and life is good.

Faces in the crowd

I guess I’m pretty much mystified by the comments made in your cover story Aug. 27 about speakers at the town hall meeting on health insurance. But then maybe the person who declared George Bush her “John Wayne” pretty much summed it up.

A fictional character who rides to the rescue, shoots all the bad guys (and possibly girls) and rides off into the sunset with the prettiest girl in town. No illnesses, floods, terrorists, domestic spying, torture (well maybe a little), failed economy, failed schools, drugs and much more, just to name a few things.

Yep, that’s the America they want. Good luck!

Another series of pictures with hysterical, sobbing, women. These women admit they are not even worked up on just the health care issue: If you were to put a little pilgrim hat on them they could pass for the same women who had their neighbors burned at the stake for witchery. Cindy Sheehan lost her son in a war that 75 percent of the country did not support, but she never behaved like these people do. Where were these upright citizens when the real “Bush Death Panel” was in control, sending our fellow countrymen to their demise? NPR says 45 percent of Arkansans believe Rush has a better vision for America. He is on record for saying “I hope America Fails” after the election of President Obama. I am appalled at the ignorance. The Tea Party might be getting a little too much caffeine. For the rest of us who are trying to separate the nonsense from the real issues and dig our way out of recession that the prior administration sunk us is in, the only thing I can say is: Stay strong and stay away from the pilgrims.

I want to commend Ernie Dumas for his Aug. 27 article about health care reform. He explained very clearly the effect the proposed reforms would have on various groups of people. His column should be put on blogs all across the country so some of the misinformed protesters would better understand some of the proposals.

In this same issue, way too much space was given to radical protesters who don’t understand, and probably don’t care to understand, the real opportunity we have to make significant improvements in health care in our country. If our politicians would communicate better, and people would listen with open minds, much of the rampant fear and confusion could probably be alleviated.

Congratulations to Gerard Mathews for writing a balanced and informative piece. Finally someone from a left-leaning rag like the Arkansas Times has the courage to write an article about the healthcare protests that doesn’t just cover Democrat Party talking points, marginalizing protestors as a troupe of right-wing wackos. Plenty of us who despise the behavior of our current reigning monarch were equally appalled by his predecessor. Plenty of us who have a brain don’t need Rush Limbaugh — or any Republican for that matter. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist or a CPA to understand this country is broke.

The ruling class is out of control. Two insidious wars, bankster buddy bailouts, cash for clunkers and now a socialist healthcare plan that’s being force fed to the American people. Those who pay the bills, or are at least on the hook for them, are sick and tired of career-minded politicians. Welcome home Blanche and gentlemen. Enough is enough.
