Mercy Health Foundation receives Komen grant for Hispanic Outreach Program

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – The Arkansas Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation recently awarded the Mercy Health Foundation a $7,500 grant for the Mercy Hispanic Outreach Program at St. Joseph’s Mercy Health Center.

The Mercy Hispanic Outreach Program is designed to provide educational seminars on breast health and screening mammograms for both uninsured and underinsured Hispanic women in south central Arkansas.

“It is an honor to receive another grant from the Komen Foundation,” said Women’s Services Operations Coordinator Marsha Oliver, RN. “This grant will provide services for individuals who sometimes don’t seek medical care because of poverty, lack of insurance, low education, limited access to health care, lack of awareness of breast cancer risks and screening methods and barriers related to language and culture.”

The one-year grants awarded by the Arkansas Affiliate of the Komen Foundation are funded by money raised through annual events like the Komen Arkansas Race for the Cure and the “In the Pink” luncheon and gala events hosted by St. Joseph’s each fall.

“The support that Arkansans provide to the Komen Foundation continues to grow with each passing year,” said Arkansas Affiliate Executive Director Sherrye McBryde. “It is because of that support that we are able to offer grants to worthy organizations dedicated to the fight against breast cancer.”
