“This I Believe” is part of a National Public Radio (NPR) initiative that airs personal statements from listeners on its programs “Morning Edition” and “All Things Considered.” The statewide campaign to promote the essay project is sponsored by the ReCenter program of the UAMS Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging, KUAR/KLRE and the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies. “This I Believe” is based on a 1950s radio program of the same name, hosted by acclaimed journalist Edward R. Murrow.

“The creative process of writing your personal beliefs and then engaging in a public dialogue definitely promotes a healthier individual and a healthier community,” said Riley Lipschitz, ReCenter director.

Essays should be 350-500 words or about three minutes when read aloud. All essays will be archived at the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies, and selected essays will be read weekly on KUAR and featured in the Arkansas Times. Essays will be accepted now through December and can be submitted at www.kuar.org.

For more information, contact Riley Lipschitz at (501) 952-6690 or rlipschitz@uams.edu.
