Washington Regional Program for the Homebound Receives Award
Faith in Action Honored by State
FAYETTEVILLE – Faith in Action has been named to receive the Eldercare Intergenerational Volunteer Award from the Arkansas Gerontological Society. The program will be honored at the annual Arkansas Aging Conference on October 24 in Hot Springs.
The Arkansas Gerontological Society presents awards to Eldercare volunteers who provided services to the elderly in the previous year. There are fourteen Eldercare awards in seven categories: Oldest Volunteer, Youngest Volunteer, Volunteer Group, Most Innovative Volunteer (or Volunteer Group), Intergenerational Volunteer or Group, Area Volunteer (one for each of 8 areas of the state) and the Sister Pierre Vorster Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award. Winners can come from any part of the state.
The purpose of the awards is to honor volunteers who provide services to the elderly and encourage the expansion of volunteer services to and by elderly Arkansans through recognition and appreciation of volunteers providing these services. In 2000, Faith in Action won Eldercare Most Innovative Volunteer Group for its’ approach to maintaining the health and independence of seniors in Northwest Arkansas.
A program of Washington Regional, Faith in Action is a volunteer based organization providing homebound seniors with free non-medical services to promote their independence, dignity and quality of life in Washington and Benton Counties. In 2005, Faith in Action worked with a wide range of intergenerational volunteers aged 2 to 82 years. Youth groups and leaders help with special projects while other volunteers of all ages provide specific services on a regular basis. Volunteers too young to drive may visit a senior with their parent.
