Faith in Action Volunteer Recognized by Senior Arkansan Hall of Fame

FAYETTEVILLE – Carl Kittrell will be inducted in the Senior Arkansan Hall of Fame on October 24 at the Arkansas Aging Conference in Hot Springs. He was chosen from nominees around the state who have performed outstanding volunteer contributions that have enhanced and enriched the quality of life specifically for senior Arkansans.

Kitrell was nominated for the award by his peers at Faith in Action, (FIA). A program of Washington Regional, FIA is a volunteer-based organization that provides homebound seniors with free non-medical services to help promote independence, dignity and quality of life.

Kittrell has been a volunteer for Faith in Action since 1998. He transports clients to medical appointments on an average of one to two rides a week, and has driven over 1,500 miles for FIA in the past 9 months.

“Carl is very well-known among our staff and volunteers for his willingness to take on any and all driving assignments,” states Program Coordinator Nancy Galbraith. “Whether it’s dealing with a complicated client situation or making a particularly long distance drive, our Carl always goes above and beyond his required volunteer duties in an effort to be as helpful as he can. It is not an overstatement to say that Carl is a big reason that so many of Faith in Action clients are able to receive medical care from their physicians each month.”

Before moving to Fayetteville and becoming a FIA volunteer, Kittrell provided similar volunteer services in Little Rock for the Shepherd’s Center. A veteran of World War II, Kitrell has spent hundreds of volunteer hours enrolling other WW II veterans in the National World War II Memorial now open in Washington, D.C.
The Senior Arkansan Hall of Fame was created by the 78th General Assembly to honor the significant contributions of older Arkansans.
