Charles Nestrud, one of the attorneys for the Hempstead County Hunting Club, which has been fighting to stop construction on the John W. Turk coal-fired power plant in Hempstead County, says SWEPCO is trying to complete construction on the plant before the matter is settled before the state Public Service Commission or the Arkansas Supreme Court.
“I think that’s been their plan from the start,” Nestrud said.
The state Supreme Court ruled last week that the hunting club had not exhausted all avenues to appeal the plant’s approval before the state Public Service Commission. SWEPCO has continued to build the plant despite a couple of earlier adverse court rulings.
Will the hunting club go back to the PSC? “I think everybody’s looking at their options right now to see what our next move will be,” Nestrud said.
