John Daly’s new book reveals that the golfer may have lost between $50 million and $60 million gambling over a 12-year period, just another sordid tale in an amazing and often disappointing sports life shows up in bad headlines as much as good ones. “John Daly: My Life In and Out of the Rough” is set for release next Monday.

The cover of the book has Daly in his natural pose, with cigarette and a cup (filled only with Diet Coke, we hope) in hand, along with golf club.

“If I don’t get control of my gambling, it’s going to flat-out ruin me,” Daly is quoted in the book, co-written with Glen Waggoner and published by HarperCollins.

Wouldn’t it be nice if Daly could channel all his supposed addictions in just, say, golf for a change? Addiction to gambling: bad. Addiction to golf: not so bad.
