Jay and Mary Schapiro tell us that as of yesterday, they no longer own Schapiro’s on Central in Hot Springs, the restaurant and bar that features good blues music on weekends. The new owners are Tony and Karen Smith. In a couple of months, the place will be renamed Magnolia’s.

Jay has strived to bring in top blues acts to Hot Springs (Wes Jeans, Mark Sallings, Oreo Blue, Cate Brothers, etc.), has helped with the big blues weekends over there and at one time hosted the Spa City Blues Society’s shows. We wish him and Mary the best. Oh, the steaks were a good deal over there, too. Good luck to the Smiths as they keep the Central Avenue establishment rolling on.
