That’s the dependable scuttlebutt I’m hearing from the people around the Hogs athletic department. Mike Nail has been the Razorback basketball play-by-play man for going on two decades.
This move would not be permanent, but only for this season, with a national search made for the eventual permanent Voice of the Razorbacks. With less than a month before the season and dependable voice in Nail, it seems like the logical move.
Steve Sullivan, I’m told, is not wanting to be the play-by-play voice of the Razorbacks, though I haven’t heard that from Sully himself, but from insiders at Channel 7. Chuck Barrett, another favored announcer of many Hog fans because of his play-by-play work in baseball, would remain in the booth in his regular ARSN job of hosting the pre-game and post-game shows. Keith Jackson is still aboard as color analyst at least for one more year, with his son Keith Jr. a senior starting defensive tackle.
In case you just emerged from living under a rock the past week, Voice of the Razorbacks Paul Eells died in a car wreck last Monday night and was buried on Friday (see earlier Little Rocking reports).
