Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips.

So, now that we’ve officially got a Rock ‘n’ Roll Highway, it’s time for the ledge to move onto other insignificant-but-fun-to-talk-about matters. Namely, following Oklahoma’s lead and designating an official “rock song” for Arkansas.

In Oklahoma, a panel, appointed by the governor, the speaker of the house, the president pro temp of the senate and other officials, picked 10 songs and then invited the public to vote. The Flaming Lips’ “Do You Realize?” won. (It beat out the likes of “Let’s Have a Party” by Wanda Jackson (1958); “Walk Don’t Run” by The Venture (1960); “Move Along” by the All-American Rejects (2005);  and “After Midnight” by J.J. Cale (1965)). And then, through a Senate joint resolution, it entered the history books.

So let’s get going on this. I’ll get the ball rolling and nominate Black Oak Arkansas’ “Hot and Nasty.”
