Variety reports that Matt Damon and Josh Brolin are in talks to join the Coen brothers’ adaptation of Charles Portis’ “True Grit.” They’d join Jeff Bridges, who’s already committed to playing Rooster Cogburn. Damon is in line to play La Boeuf (played by Glen Campbell in 1969 adaptation), the lawmen who accompanies Cogburn and 14-year-old Mattie Ross as they track Ross’s father’s killer, which is the role Brolin’s considering.

The film starts shooting next March with late 2010 as the release target.
