Mary Smith, director of education at Audubon Arkansas, sends me some artwork done by students at Carver Elementary School, where students studied birds and their habitat and got some artistic guidance by watercolorist Kitty Harvill.
Harvill showed the students how she went about painting exotic blue macaws — observing them in their habitat (she now divides her time between the states and Brazil), photographing and painting. The kids also heard from children’s book author Darcy Pattison on illustration. Sixty watercolors are hanging at Audubon Arkansas’s headquarters at 4500 Springer Blvd. On Tuesday, 75 children, parents teacher and guests attended a reception there.
Great combination of science, art and children.
