New sculpture in the Vogel-Schwartz sculpture garden, in Riverfront Park behind the Peabody Hotel, was celebrated yesterday afternoon with ice cold water and wine. Balloons were tied to the new pieces, one donated and the rest purchased at last year’s Sculpture at the River Market show. Names of the artists weren’t attached yet, so I can’t identify the artist of the deer pictured above, but City Director Dean “Riverfront Park” Kumpuris said it was his favorite.
Here’s a link to other snaps I took yesterday of some of the new work and one purchased earlier, the large yellow sculpture by Kathleen Caricof, a $60,000 commission paid for with city and private funds. Two of the pieces are by Michael Warrick, sculpture instructor at UALR.
