In response to my blog item yesterday about new Arts Center director Todd Herman, the Arts Center tells me there is, in fact, another exhibit scheduled for this summer besides the Rockwell show. It is “Building the Collection: Art Acquired in the 1980s” and it will hang in the Winthrop Rockefeller Gallery, where work from the collection is traditionally hung and where the Chuck Close show just closed.
No announcement had been made about the show, or the fact that the Will Barnet exhibit has had a name change, to “Will Barnet at the Arkansas Arts Center: A Centennial Exhibition.” “It’s about transition,” marketing director Heather Haywood explained.
“Building the Collection” runs July 15 through Oct. 9. It will be followed by another “Building the Collection” exhibit.
(About the image above: The Peter Paul Rubens red and black chalk drawing, dating to circa 1614-1615, was acquired in 1989 by the Arts Center Foundation. I chose it merely as an illustration; I don’t know if it will be on exhibit in the “Building the Collection” show in July.)
