READY TO GO: Bottles await the spoils of grape-stomping in Altus.

  • READY TO GO: Bottles await the spoils of grape-stomping in Altus.

It’s time once again for the Altus Grape Festival. Yes, I’m trekking that way today. I’m looking forward to lounging in Altus City Park, sampling this year’s best wines from Post, Wiederkehr, Mount Bethel, Chateau aux Arc and Cowie and having a steak over at Kelt’s Pub. It’s been a while since I’ve seen Dan and Jan and I’ve been craving some of that great brown bread they make.

Will I participate in the big Celebrity Grape Stomp this year? Haven’t a clue. It was a pretty big surprise last year but I had a great time with it. I will definitely be there to watch the action, though.

The Altus Grape Festival runs tonight from 5 p.m. onward with the stomping, booths, fun for the kids and a big dance. Tomorrow it’s pancakes for breakfast, a Bacchus look-alike contest and who knows what else. It’s always a good time and parking is free. Can’t beat that with a stick.
