A writer for Architectural Record took a tour of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art with architect Moshe Safdie and is quite taken with the design, which he calls ambitious “but never overbearing.” (Story here.) He also notes that a recent storm filled the ponds with muddy water; the ponds are now being lined with plastic and rock to separate the creek bed from spring flow and create the “crystal” effect.
The writer also says the cost of construction probably falls within Safdie’s $300 million Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City and the $3 billion Marina Bay Sands resort complex in Singapore. Far cry from the $31 million total estimate on the original building permits taken out in Bentonville.
