Want to talk about a load of fun… there’s food related events going on everywhere this weekend in Arkansas.
Up north, head to Mountain View for the 29th Annual Arkansas Bean Fest & Arkansas Championship Outhouse Races. At noon on Saturday you can participate in an all-you-can-eat beans and cornbread feast on the square — followed by the always funny, sometimes stupendous spectacle of watching all those folks race outhouses along their designated route. Should be a blast… er, something like that! A few details on this website.
The September Fund’s hosting the 6th Annual Guns ‘N’ Hoses Chili Cookoff at the Clear Channel Metroplex in Little Rock Saturday. All competitors are welcome. Set-up and cooking begins at 6 a.m., and the event opens to the public at 11 a.m. Tasting spoons will be sold at the event. Sponsored by 100.3fm The Edge, the money raised goes to the September Fund — which gives scholarships to the college-bound children of firefighters, police officers and other emergency workers. And in El Dorado, this weekend is the Southern Food and Wine Festival. Friday night there’s a formal dinner hosted by Presqui’le Winery, featuring great Southern food, premium wines and the music of the New Birth Brass Band. Saturday the town square opens up with food and wine tastings, Southern art and live music. I’m heading that way myself. More information can be found here.
