The Butler Center for Arkansas Studies has announced a that Lucero and Black Oak Arkansas will join Sonny Burgess & The Legendary Pacers and Sleepy LaBeef as the headlining acts of its inaugural Arkansas Sounds music festival, slated for Sept. 28-29, with events at River Market Pavilions, Riverfest Amphitheatre and CALS’ Main Library.

Other bands include The Cate Brothers, Rodney Block & The Real Music Lovers, Tyrannosaurus Chicken, The Salty Dogs, Velvet Kente and Runaway Planet.

Amy Garland will host a tribute show to two great Arkansas artists who died this year, Levon Helm and Michael Burks. The monthly lecture series Legacies & Lunch will feature Kevin Kerby.

If you were bummed out that Greil Marcus had to cancel his appearance at the Arkansas Literary Festival back in April, here’s some good news: the veteran rock critic is scheduled to give a presentation at Arkansas Sounds, in conjunction with the Lit Fest.
