A sculpture by Bryan Massey Sr., a professor at the University of Central Arkansas, honoring Silas Hunt, the first African-American law student at the University of Arkansas, was dedicated at the UA campus last week.

In an article in The City Wire, Massey says his stone carving, which embraces a medallion honoring Hunt, was inspired by a scene in the movie “The Lion King” in which King Mufasa presents his infant son, Simba, to the pride.

Massey, who was born in Greensboro, N.C., has work at the Sculpture Ranch created in Texas by painter Benini and his wife, Lorraine.
