“Recovery: The World Trade Center Recovery Operation,” an exhibition documenting the search for human remains, personal effects and evidence from the 9/11 site, is open at the Laman Library in North Little Rock. Maureen Mitchell, whose husband, NYFD Lt. Paul Mitchell died in the rescue efforts at the twin towers, will talk at 6 p.m. tonight at the library and again at 10 p.m. Saturday.
The exhibit comes from the New York State Museum and features 50 photographs, 56 recovered artifacts — including the motorcycle in the picture above — and interpretive text panels.
An estimated 1.8 million tons of debris was transported to the Fresh Kills landfill site on Staten Island, where it was sifted for remains by thousands of volunteers.
The exhibit runs through Dec. 1. Hope the library stocks the gallery with lots of Kleenex.
