Main Street’s dining scene took a hit this week when Montego Cafe announced that it was shutting down operations. It was just last month that I was bragging on the place for serving up some excellent jerk chicken, but according to a statement on the restaurant’s Facebook page, the co-owners of the Caribbean cafe decided to call it quits after “creative differences.” The restaurant didn’t even make it a year, opening last Thanksgiving Day in the space that once housed Porter’s Jazz Cafe. Montego Café, a fusion of a Jamaican restaurant and a music venue, closed on Monday, September 9th at the 315 Main Street, Little Rock, Arkansas location. Principles Brad McCray and Chris Bowen have decided to part ways due to creative differences concerning the vision of this very unique establishment in downtown Little Rock. Montego had developed a reputation for having great food, excellent customer service along with bringing incredible musicians and singers to perform in this historic building. Unfortunately sometimes partners have differing viewpoints on how to continue and expand operations. We want to collectively thank our patrons, employees and others that have supported our concept for a restaurant and entertainment venue in downtown Little Rock. Though Montego Café has closed, we look forward to continuing to provide restaurant and entertainment options in Little Rock.

Let’s hope that these guys either work out their differences — or alternatively, whichever one of them was responsible for that chicken either reopens on his own on Main Street or somewhere else soon. That’s a great restaurant space in a rapidly growing part of town — best of luck to all involved.
