Alice Walton will receive the Archives of American Art Medal tomorrow night at fund-raiser for the Smithsonian archives in New York.

Light and space artist James Turrell, whose Skyscapes include one at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, founded by Walton in Bentonville, will also receive the archives medal. Art historian Richard J. Powell will receive the Lawrence Fleischman Award for Scholarly Excellence in the field of American art history.

From the Smithsonian news release:

“We honor these three distinguished individuals not only for their personal contributions, which are extraordinary in their own right, but also because their work dovetails with ours in its quest to spark discovery and bring depth and nuance to the visual arts in America,” says Kate Haw, Director of the Archives of American Art.

Honorary co-chairs of the event, at 583 Park Ave., are fellow American art collectors Mr. and Mrs. Eli Broad and Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. Manoogian.
