Here’s our first look at the trailer for David Gordon Green‘s “Joe,” the Little Rock-born director’s adaptation of the book by the great Larry Brown. The screenplay is by the documentary filmmaker and “Rough South” chronicler Gary Hawkins, and Variety calls it a “bleak and brutal examination of Southern small-town masculinity and its discontents.” Given the milieu, the dialect, and the portentous rural imagery, I imagine fans of Green’s pre-Apatow style will be pleased, give or take Nicolas Cage. The film played at festivals last year and is set for a theatrical release in April.
Incidentally, Green’s next project has also just been announced: “Manglehorn,” starring Al Pacino (as an ex-con locksmith), Holly Hunter, and, why not, Harmony Korine.
