Winslow sculptor Anita Huffington’s work “Earth” sold at auction in New York recently for $8,125 (including the buyer’s premium), a good bit more than the $3,000 to $5,000 estimate for the piece.
The auction was held Wednesday, June 11, at Doyle New York, at its Doyle+Design sale. The 18 1/2-inch sculpture dates to 1990 and is one of an edition of two.
Also at that auction was a drawing by Japanese American artist Yasuo Kuniyoshi, whose painting “Little Joe With Cow” is in the collection of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. Kuniyoshi endured house arrest in New York after the bombing of Pearl Harbor but was never interned in camps like Rohwer and Jerome. The drawing was sold for $2,375, a bit over estimate.
