Sheila Cantrell of Batesville, Delita Martin of Little Rock and Kat Wilson of Fayetteville are the three visual arts recipients of the Arkansas Arts Council’s nine individual arts fellowship winners announced today.
Cantrell is a photorealist, Martin is a printmaker who blends other media into her work and Wilson is a photographer; works on paper was this year’s visual arts focus.
Winners of the literary arts fellowships (short stories) are Marla Cantrell of Alma and Alice Otto and Hung Pham, both of Fayetteville. Performing arts winners (this year in theatrical directing) are Times’ “Visionary” Amy Herzberg of Fayetteville’s TheatreSquared, Kassie Misiewicz of Bentonville’s Trike Theatre, and Rebekah Scallet of the Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre.
Pham, director of the Arkansas Studio Project literacy project, is the only male winner this year. Not sure what that says about the particular media the prizes focus on this year, if anything. Winners receive $4,000. There will be a public reception at the Historic Arkansas Museum from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 3. Reserve at 324-9766.
