1. Yuni Wa – “I Hope You Still Love Me”
Yuni Wa is 17-year-old Little Rock native Princeton Coleman, a talented, omnivorous producer who makes beats, frenetic dance music and Paradise Garage-ready disco edits. Watch this space, etc.
2. Marvin Berry – “Throwin’ Shade”
You can now pre-order the debut full-length from Little Rock’s Marvin Berry, the new effort from Andy Warr, Will Boyd, Chris Michaels and Dave Hoffpauir. Here’s one of the two tracks they’re offering as an album preview. Spend some money, just spend all of it.
3. Ma’Leak – “Sheen Mine (Relax)”
Ma’Leak, of Little Rock’s Trilly Mob and Nostalgic Recordings, is back with a new tape, “Screw Luv,” a title that is not, refreshingly, a reference to the Houston DJ but something closer to actual, real-life misanthrope. There are saxophones and “Martin” samples and Ma’Leak offers that he’s “trying to make a genre up off the top of my head.”
4. Careful Creature – “Growing”
Here’s something new from Benton’s Austin Vines, a.k.a. Careful Creature, from a new EP called “Skeleton Daze.” It starts out sounding like The Microphones or something, all earthy home-recorded ambiance, but edges into folksy electronica.
5. Voodoo Phaser – “Window I and II”
More from the engimatic Fayetteville art-rock project Voodoo Phaser, who have introduced some pagan, Led Zeppelin-style esotericism into their lyrics (‘as the midwives cradle holy ones,” etc.), while growing even more sonically detached and far-out.
