Let’s talk some food news you can use. The biggest news for us personally is that this here blog is back among the “content is free” crowd, and we hope everyone is as happy about it as we are!
In other news, Simon Majumdar of Food Network fame will be in town for the Literary Festival this weekend, and he’ll also be leading the judging at a Traditional Pie Contest at the Root on Sunday starting at 4 p.m. I’m going to be a judge there, so if you’ve ever wanted to put a pie in my face, this is the perfect opportunity to do so.
Our friends at The Locals up in Conway have really been rocking it lately. Their first pop-up farmers market is coming this weekend along with a crawfish crawl, crafts and a bunch of other great stuff. The festivities start at noon this Saturday in downtown Conway—all of Front St. is going to be shut down for the event. It should be awesome—The Locals are working hard to create a food hub and increase Conway’s ability to support local.
Acadia Restaurant will have a changed menu starting today—gone is their former prix fixe model, replaced by an ala carte menu that should please diners. Dishes like steamed mussels with tomato, prime steaks, seafood and a seared-duck spinach salad all look tasty on the sample menu they sent out. Chef and owner James Hale has put some thought into this and I’m excited to see just what they’re up to.
Of course, the Jewish Food Festival is on Sunday, and we’re gearing up for the busy foodie season. I’m making a whirlwind tour of farmers markets this weekend, too, so y’all let me know what’s good.
Over to you all. Welcome to the first free open line in nearly two years.
